The Bulawayo Central MP was hosting the popular “amaSunday” at her night club when she was reportedly involved in a misunderstanding with a patron over change.

According to eyewitnesses, Sibanda was punched on the mouth by a shebeen queen only identified as Bekezela at around 7pm.

“Bekezela claimed to have bought beer using a $100 note from Sibanda. When she asked for her change Sibanda said she did not receive any money from her resulting in an argument,” a witness said.

“The argument degenerated into a scuffle and Bekezela punched Sibanda on the mouth. The matter was reported at Bulawayo Central Police Station.”

Contacted for comment, Sibanda confirmed the incident, but denied that she was punched on the mouth.

“I think it was just a misunderstanding. I am at the police station, so I can’t talk much. It was just a misunderstanding; you know when people are under the influence of alcohol.

“I was injured. I have a stiff neck, but I was not punched in the mouth. Who told you that?” Sibanda quizzed.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo yesterday said he had not received any information on the matter.

Sibanda is acting on behalf of MDC-T provincial chairperson Gorden Moyo who took a sabbatical in the party’s affairs until next month.

She is not new to controversy as the owner of the Ntabazinduna beer outlet she leases accuses her of refusing to pay rentals.
