Bonde, who has been out of action for a while, qualified in a slow time of 11,05secs beating Pride Mugwagwa who clocked 11,25secs and Tapiwa Pfavayi of Nyasha Charandura Academy, who clocked 11,26secs.

The event which was meant to attract southern region countries, saw Botswana being the only country to compete. Kenneth Chibhana qualified in the senior men’s event in 10,85secs beating Dumisani Bhebhe of Matabeleland South who finished the dash in 11,20secs and Abdul Simbili who clocked 11,26secs.

In the senior women’s 400m, Yvonne Vanhuvaone beat a strong field of athletes to clock 57,03secs with Rachael Ngwarai coming second in a time of 59,01secs. Grace Gimo was third in 59,40secs.

The competition continues today with the finals of yesterday’s events.
