This was heard by Bulawayo senior magistrate Sibongile Msipa yesterday when Khanyile Sibanda (43) of Nkulumane appeared before her charged with two counts of theft.

Sibanda was not asked to plead to the charges and Msipa granted him $200 bail before remanding the case to tomorrow.

The court heard that between February and September 2013, Sibanda was given rentals from Comoil Service Station Kiosk in Lupane to bank, but he allegedly converted the money to his own use.

It was the State’s case that he was given $500 for five months totalling $2 500.

In the second count, the State alleged that Sibanda collected money from sales made at the Comoil Bulawayo Service Station situated along Robert Mugabe Way in Northend on four different days. Instead of depositing the money into the company’s CBZ Bank account, Sibanda allegedly converted the cash totalling $11 860 to his own use and nothing was recovered.

This brought the total prejudice suffered by Comoil to $14 360.

The theft was discovered by Sibanda’s supervisor Isaac Ndlovu and a report was made to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.
