Thulani Dube (18) of Mthwakazi township appeared before Filabusi resident magistrate Mzingaye Moyo on Monday charged with the attempted murder of Mlamuli Ndlovu (20) from the same neighbourhood.

Dube was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to August 8.

The magistrate advised Dube to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Smart Tafireyi told the court that Dube and Ndlovu were drinking beer at Cover Nite Club in Filbusi on July 26 and had an altercation after Dube’s friend allegedly spat into Ndlovu’s opaque beer.

The two went outside the night club and Dube allegedly attacked Ndlovu with a knife several times, ripping his stomach open and leaving his intestines protruding in the process.

Ndlovu was assisted by other revellers who took him to Filabusi District Hospital.

He was later transferred to the United Bulawayo Hospital where his stomach was sewn up.

A report was made to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest.
