TWENTY-NINE people had died in holiday accidents by yesterday morning, police have said.

“As of 9am (yesterday) we have recorded 182 accidents as compared to 179 of 2013, with 29 deaths as compared to 32 of last year,” police spokesperson Superintendent Paul Nyathi said.
He said police had recorded 118 accident-related injuries over the past two days as compared to 149 recorded over the same period last year.
“We have also issued out 19 365 tickets for various offences and have impounded 215 vehicles for various defects,” Nyathi added.
Harare and Masvingo had the highest number of fatal accidents, each recording eight deaths.
They were followed by Bulawayo with five, Mashonaland Central and East (three each), Mashonaland West and the Midlands (two each) while Matabeleland North and South provinces recorded one death each.
“While the number of people who are dying has gone down, we are still appealing to motorists to be observant of the road rules,” Nyathi said.
