Stephen Guwa, the Edgars group corporate social responsibility manager, said the 20 bins and 500 refuse bags were worth $2 000. The plastic bins and refuse bags were inscribed “My Zimbabwe My responsibility – Do not litter”.
“The Bambanani community group has a lot of programmes that include floor polish and candle making and they have a home-based care unit which needs bins and refuse bags,” Guwa said.
He urged tertiary institutions to come up with appropriate technologies that would help recycle litter in the country as a way of creating employment.
“We want to put value on litter for the purpose of recycling it.
“For example, perishables like thick porridge can be recycled and turned into manure.
“Plastic can be recycled and turned into coat hangers.
