Zivanai Msipa (38) of Maticha village under Chief Mazvihwa, who had just been released from prison after serving a three-month sentence for assaulting his wife, appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Peter Madiba facing an assault charge and was remanded in custody to today.

According the State outline, Msipa and his wife Farai Shoko were at their homestead on September 10 when their neighbour Nyorovai Moyo (32) confronted Shoko over a $10 chicken debt.

Shoko told Moyo that she had no money and an argument ensued between the two women.

Msipa heard Moyo shouting at his wife and inquired what the argument was all about.

Msipa then allegedly took several sticks, grabbed Moyo and severely lashed her buttocks, left arm and right breast for verbally attacking his wife. Moyo suffered swollen buttocks and was assisted by other neighbours, who came to her rescue, to go to the clinic.

A medical report would be presented in court as an exhibit when the case resumes today.
