Dulini Ncube, the founding treasurer-general of the MDC, died last week.

At the time of his death, he was chairperson of the guardian council of the MDC led by Welshman Ncube.

Tsvangirai, in a statement, said Dulini Ncube would remain a hero despite their differences.

“Even if we disagree, we must remember and respect each other’s unique contributions,” he said.

“We will not forget the suffering he endured when he was tortured and needlessly arrested for a crime he did not commit.

“We do recognise his role in the liberation struggle.

“He was among the heroes of our democratic struggle who suffered at the hands of Zanu PF in its vain attempt to derail the struggle for change in this country.”

Dulini Ncube was arrested in 2002 together with the late Remember Moyo and Khethani Sibanda on false charges of killing war veterans’ leader Nkala.

Moyo has since died as a result of injuries suffered while in custody.

Dulini Ncube was seriously tortured and denied medical attention that when he was acquitted, he had lost sight in one eye.

He is set to be buried this week in Bulawayo. Mourners are gathered at number 7 Oxford Road, Hillside, Bulawayo.
