The Plumtree-born musician who sings Tshibilika characterised by high-powered or tshimbi-tshimbi dance is expected to leave the country tomorrow morning accompanied by members from local Kalanga organisation — Kalanga Language and Cultural Development Association.

The festival organised by Domboshaba Festival Trust in Botswana is aimed at celebrating and promoting Kalanga language and culture and is held annually at Domboshaba ruins and attended by Kalanga people from the two neighbouring countries. The festival is arguably the largest in Botswana.

In an interview yesterday, Magwaza said he was elated to be recognised in Botswana as this was an indication that his music was getting popular and that he was growing as an artiste.

“I am the only artiste who got the invitation and I feel very much honoured, the tshimbi-tshimbi musican said.

Magwaza will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrated Botswana musicians such as Ndingo Johwa and Isaac Maleyi who have in the past headlined the prestigious event.

Magwaza ventured into the music industry in 1997 and has released five albums.

He gained popularity in 2012 after his debut hit Take-Take which arguably brought a paradigm shift to the appreciation of Afro-fusion by urbanites.

Meanwhile, Magwaza will tonight perform at the Intwasa Arts festival KoBulawayo and is expected to mesmerise fans.
