Dube spoke to our sister paper NewsDay Sport briefly on Saturday where he confirmed that an application had already been made to the world football governing body for the next allocations.

“The application has been made and Bulawayo would benefit,” he said.

Zifa has completed the laying of the artificial turf at the Zifa Village in Mt Hampden as part of the first four phases of the Goal Project and would soon start operating a sports bar as part of their fundraising activities after being granted a liquor licence.

Zimbabwe is one of 44 countries, according to the Fifa website, that have benefited from four goal projects in addition to a new headquarters that Zifa has bought and will be unveiled in due course.

The new HQ was approved last year and was initially meant to be a new construction until Zifa identified a new place.

Fifa said of Zimbabwe: “Following the completion of a good technical centre, attention will now turn to the construction of new headquarters as the present one is less than adequate and is not suitable for the effective and efficient execution of operations.
