MATABELELAND Busters, Western Panthers, Southern Region Academy and Gweru Sports Club will represent the Southern Region at the Zimbabwe Summer Sevens Series in Harare. THANDIWE MOYO SPORTS CORRESPONDENT
Busters won the Southern Region tournament beating Western Panthers 31-14 while Gweru were placed third following a 28-5 thrashing of Old Miltonians.
The teams were drawn into two groups with Busters in Pool A while Panthers were in Pool B.
Busters sturdy defence did not concede in their group beating Police Bulldogs 21-0, Southern Region academy 32-0 and Old Miltonians 28-0.
Old Miltonians, who were also one of the favourites to represent the region, beat Southern Region Academy 24-14 and Police Bulldogs 33-7.
Southern Region Academy, which is made up of players who include Lloyd Machanjaira, Lucky Sithole, Kuda Chimukuyu, Hardlife Moyo and George Nhlalo, went on to lose 0-12 to Police Bulldogs.
In Pool B Panthers won their first match against Zvishavane Bulls who struggled in the National Rugby League and later against Gweru 25-19.
Zvishavane Bulls lost their second match to Gweru 7-42, but beat Western Suburbs 12-0.

Western Suburbs did not win any match during the two-day tournament losing to Gweru 0-47, Panthers 0-84 and in the seventh place to Southern Region Academy 12-17.
Zvishavane Bulls won the fifth place playoff against Police Bulldogs while Gweru were placed third after beating Old Miltonians 28-5.
The tournament will be used as a platform to select a team for the Confederation of African Rugby tournament to be hosted by the country on November 29 and 30.
