This came to light when Lizwe Fatima Sithole appeared before Western Commonange provincial magistrate Willard Mafios Moyo, where he was charged with attempted murder.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to November 17.

In a statement, Sithole told the court that he did not remember what exactly happened because he was drunk.

“I was very drunk your worship, I last saw what I was doing when we were insulting each other, from then I do not know what happened,” he said.

In mitigation Sithole asked Ndabezinhle Ndlovu, whom he stabbed, to forgive him and consider that he was very drunk.

“I would not have done that in my normal senses, I am sorry,” he added.

Prosecutor Kingston Mukanganwi told the court that on that fateful night, Ndlovu left his wares in town and on his way home, he received a message that his friends were drinking at Nketa 8 bar at around 11pm.

He went there to join his friends and 45 minutes later, the bar owner told them he wanted to close so they had to leave.

“After we went out of the bar, Sithole came to me and asked me why I had not been buying him beer, yet everyone else bought him beer,” the complainant told the court.

“I told him I did not have money, but if I had money I would not hesitate.”

After a short while, the two started exchanging harsh words, but were commanded to stop it by other elderly people who were at the scene.

On his way home, Ndlovu heard Sithole breaking a bottle behind him.

“He stabbed me in the neck once and when I fell down he came on top of me and stabbed me on the forehead, chest, arm and in the back with a broken bottle,” Ndlovu explained.

“I became unconscious, but when I opened my eyes no one was there, even my friends had escaped,” he said.

“I went to my neighbour Jeremiah Masuku who then reported the matter to the police and I was admitted at Mpilo Hospital for treatment.”
