ZANU PF Bulawayo provincial chairman Callistus Ndlovu yesterday dismissed the vote of no confidence passed on him and five other members of his executive on Saturday as null and void saying the provincial executive remained intact. BENSON DUBE OWN CORRESPONDENT
Addressing a press conference at the party’s Davis Hall provincial head office, Ndlovu instead announced the suspension of George Mlala of the previously unknown war veterans’ elders, Nacisio Makhulumo and Patson Parirenyatwa, the provincial secretary for lands, for engineering the “bogus” vote of no confidence by falsifying signatures of people that were not part of their plan.
Thirty members of the provincial executive and all chairpersons of Bulawayo districts were preset at yesterday’s press conference, while five sent apologies. There was also a heavy police presence and suspected members of the Central Intelligence Organisation, as well as military intelligence.
“A vote of no confidence is done in a properly constituted manner and these people held their meeting at an undisclosed location,” he said.
“These people went to an unknown destination where they signed a petition on behalf of some members who were not part of them.”
Ndlovu said some individuals were approached, but declined to support the proposal, resulting in the group forging some executive members’ signatures.
“These three brought people that are not in party structures and used money to lure other party members; we do not want to mention them by name,” he said.
Ndlovu said the three were part of a group that lost the last provincial elections.

“The province endorsed President Robert Mugabe as first secretary and president of the party and Dr Grace Mugabe as their nominee to lead the women’s league,” he continued.
“These people pretend to be more Zanu PF yet they are not.
“All allegations made by these people will result in legal action and we will ask them to prove that in court. It is the provincial council that can cast a vote of no confidence.
“These people are accusing us of having abandoned them when they occupied Mazwi Reserve owned by (the) Bulawayo City Council (BCC). We told them to leave BCC property, but they refused. I led a committee that endorsed President Mugabe as the first secretary of Zanu PF and Grace as leader of women’s league and appointed Godfrey Malaba to read the message.”
He said if people were no longer interested in his executive they would leave peacefully.
“Today I am blamed by number one thieves,” Ndlovu charged.
“I do not believe in suspending people and let’s not try to be opportunists.
