ZHHA’s awards committee has already held successful launch shows in Harare, Kadoma, Mutare and Bulawayo will be their next stop.
Kevin Ashly, the awards’ executive producer, told Southern Eye Lifestyle yesterday that submissions for the awards were overwhelming.
He said for an artiste to be nominated, their music should have been played on any of the three local radio stations namely Power FM, Star FM and ZiFM between October 31 2013 and October this year.
Ashly said an artiste stood a higher chance of nomination if he or she released a video and had more than three local performances throughout the year.
“We have drawn judges who have contributed to the growth of the culture (hip-hop) through broadcast, print media and activism channels,” he said.
“Submissions of music in each category that relates to performing acts is made by record labels and individuals.

“Members of the judging community are replaced on a yearly basis to ensure that an exchange of new ideas takes place and improvements are made. This will help ZHHA meet expected standards.”
The awards have for the past three years been marred by controversy and criticism from the hip-hop community.
However, Ashly said the feedback would make this year’s event much better than the previous ones.
“Over the years, the awards have received a lot of criticism both positive and negative, but that only tells us we are on the right path,” he said.
“Rome was not built in a day. It took other countries years to finally master the art of awards.
“We are now experienced and we will deliver a quality international show. We are going to set an example on how awards should be done.
“All we ask is for people to support the movement because ZHHA has become a game-changer in the music industry and has become the most consistent music awards show.”
