The now deceased has been identified as Tawanda Ngwenya (29) a resident of Chinotimba suburb and his body was taken to the Victoria Falls District Hospital mortuary.

A neighbour who commented on condition of anonymity told Southern Eye that the two had argued over money and infidelity.

“On November 14 in the morning we heard Ngwenya with his wife fighting, the wife accusing him of bringing less money home for the upkeep of their children and always showering his lover with nice presents,” the neighbour said.

“His wife was very bitter and threatened to chase him out of their lodgings.” Ngwenya reportedly left the house immediately and said he would never return.

“He left immediately stating that he was not coming back forever. We took it as a joke,” the neighbour continued.

“The following day, his wife went to report at the police that her husband was missing after a bitter argument and then on Tuesday afternoon his body was found by a woman who was going to Victoria Falls Hotel, hanging from a tree with his belt tied on the neck.”

Ngwenya was a popular man in the resort town, as he survived by helping people with heavy luggage cross the Zimbabwe-Zambia border to ferry their goods using a push cart.

He was popularly known as umanyamula because of his profession. The police officer commanding Victoria Falls district, Chief Superintendent Jairos Chiwona confirmed the incident adding that investigations were still under way.

“I can confirm that there was a man who was found hanging down a tree near Victoria Falls Hotel on Tuesday,” he said.

“We are still conducting investigations on the cause of death.

A post mortem will be conducted soon and the truth would be revealed.”
