Matabeleland South Acting police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkosilathi Sibanda confirmed the incident.

“The incident happened around 10pm on December 15 at the Osabeni Area in Plumtree,” he said.

Sibanda identified the deceased as Loveness Moyo (34), while the alleged assailant was identified as Derick Ncube (36).

“Ncube was employed by Moyo as a domestic worker and was residing with her,” he said. “At around 10pm Ncube armed himself with an axe and went to Moyo’s room where he found her asleep with her daughters aged 14, five and a six-month-old baby.”

Sibanda said Ncube struck Moyo on the face several times before turning to the 14-year-old daughter.

“Ncube struck the 14-year-old twice on the forehead and in the right arm before he hanged himself with a rope in his hut,” Sibanda said. “At around 7am on Tuesday the five-year-old daughter woke up and discovered her mother and her sister lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

“She took his six-month-old sibling and went to her aunt Bekezela Moyo, who mobilised her neighbours and went to Moyo’s homestead, where they found them lying in a pool of blood.”

Sibanda said when the neighbour went to the homestead they found the 14-year-old lying on the floor unconscious with deep wounds on the forehead.

“The 14-year-old was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals and her condition is very critical,” he narrated.

The bodies of the two deceased were taken to Plumtree hospital for a post mortem, Sibanda said.

He said they were still investigating the case and advised people to involve third parties in solving their disputes.
