Force behind focus

SOME people fail in life, not because they using wrong methodologies, but because they lack focus. They only get to their old age only to realise what they missed was an element of focus to have made it.

SOME people fail in life, not because they using wrong methodologies, but because they lack focus. They only get to their old age only to realise what they missed was an element of focus to have made it.

What most people do with their lives is to fumble through other than following through. In old English, we could say they are “rolling stones that gather’s no moss”.

At times the real thing that causes people not to focus is lack of knowledge of their real purpose. They are guessing through their lives what they are supposed to do.

The first step before a person will focus on what they will spend their life time on is to find that thing that you could do even if you were not paid for.

The question I always ask people that I am coaching or mentoring is: What would you do with your life if you didn’t need to come to work every day? What are the things that causes you sleepless nights, not because there is a problem, but because it’s a ingrained passion?

What are the things that cause inexplicable ecstasy in your inner being that you would want to do every day? If you find that thing and focus on it, I assure you will live the best of lives.

Causes of lost focus Setbacks Setbacks are inevitable.  The inability to face storms or setbacks will cause a diversion.

Instant gratifications

It’s in the nature of humanity to have things now, as a result we opt for the short cut that could lead us to having temporary gratification.  Focus calls for delayed gratification and doing those small things daily so as to pile up for a greater destiny.

To keep in focus Discipline It is the restraint to keep moving towards your goal, despite hardships. It’s the inner stamina which says; “I have to reach to the mountain top to even if my are not willing to”.

Concentration Most road accidents are caused by a lapse in concentration, so are accidents that we encounter towards our goals. Its either we are trying to hit two birds with one stone or we are concentrating on the rear view mirror so much so, we lose focus of where we are going to.

Greatness takes a lot of determination and mental resolution. The journey to the success that you want to have is never to be a stroll in the park.

Consistence Donald Trump in the book Why We Want You To Be Rich made a profound acronym out of the word focus.

F – follow

O – one

C – course

U – until

S – successful

A good case study is Abraham Lincolin. He had a difficult childhood and had less than one year of formal schooling. At 32 he was defeated for legislature; at 38 he was defeated for speaker. At 43 and 48 he was defeated for congress.

When he was 55 years he was defeated for senate. At 56 he was defeated for vice-president and was again defeated for senate at 58.

Lastly at 60 he was elected president.

What I out lined here are only political defeats, but he also failed in business and relationships. It took real focus for him to fight to the dream that he wanted to be.

Jack Canfield the co-author of the Chicken Soup For The Soul series said: “Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them.

They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.”
