Nonsense, I did not steal a song, says Dr Malinga

JOHANNESBURG — Musician Dr Malinga is accused of stealing a song and giving it to his artiste Mr Style.

The Thandaza hit-maker, who broke into the industry with the Vaya Orlando song, has squashed accusations of being a song thief.

Music duo, Mandla “Smition” Siluma and Ben “Benzito” Maphothoma, popularly known as Beat Movement, are up in arms over being excluded from Mr Styles’ music video.

As co-producers of the song, they want to be featured in the video as well as credited.

Malinga has, however, pointed out that the song in question, Uthanda Ungathandi, does not belong to him.

“I saw that story written on a blog and it’s all nonsense. Firstly the song belongs to my artiste Mr Style who is signed to Lingas Entertainment. I didn’t steal any song,” said Malinga.

“Mr Styles is an artiste and he co-produced the song with Beat Movement who are not signed under my stable because we did not have a contract agreement,” Malinga said.

He added that Beat Movement were entitled to 25% of profits from the song as co-producers.

“They own 25% of the song and DJ Styles wrote the lyrics as well as sang, therefore, gets 50% of the royalties.”
