Michael Ngwenya (26) of Ntiba village in Jambezi, pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrate Sharon Rosemani facing charges of physically abusing his wife, Viola Manyuzu (22).
“I have been patient with her infecting me with a sexually transmitted infection for the past three years and l finally asked her on that day,” Ngwenya said in self-defence.
Ngwenya added that each time he went to work in Masvingo and returned to his wife, he got infected with the same disease and he believed that his wife was responsible for it.
However, prosecutor Listen Nare told court that on April 30, Ngwenya allegedly had a dispute with his wife over the paternity of their two children aged five and two.
“The complainant told her husband that he was the father of the children, but he disputed it and started kicking her on the head and face,” Nare said.
Manyuzu reported the case, leading to Ngwenya’s arrest.
