Gilmore Moyo

Gilmore Moyo, one of the organisers of fashion show said he was looking for new faces to strut the runway.

“We need fresh new faces, a balance of experienced and new models. Plus-size models are especially welcome to audition,” he said.

Moyo said 36 submissions had been received from designers compared to nine last year.

“We have received 36 submissions from designers around the country and from South Africa and Botswana. This reflects growth. People are seeing the value of the fashion show,” Moyo said.

“This year we have more time to plan to come up with a great show.

“The inaugural show held last year had less fashion buyers and we are hopeful that this year many would come aboard.

“Fashion buyers are available to take designers to their next level and the fashion show is meant to expose designers to potential buyers and start partnerships. Last year six designers benefited with Edgars roping them in for a development programme.”

More than 200 fashion enthusiasts graced the inaugural Intwasa fashion show held at the Hope Centre.

Designers mainly from Bulawayo participated, among them Crox Designs, winner of Clothing Indaba, Sanah Designs, Umlongo by Wani Baker, Ganu Creations who recently showcased at the Southern African Designers Community Fashion Week, Shadow by Sidumiso who showcased at the Durban Fashion Fair, Ara Kani.

The Intwasa fashion show is collaboration between Hunnar Management Agency and Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo.

The show is supported by Edgars Stores Zimbabwe and the Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo.
