DOCTOR Mary Muchekeza, a senior medical doctor based at Gweru General Hospital, has successfully undergone a specialised surgery at Puhua International Hospital in Beijing, China, after she broke her spinal cord in a horrific car accident last July.

Muchekeza is the deputy provincial epidemiology and disease control officer.
She was referred to China for stem cell treatment last month after the Killer Zivhu-led Wezhira Ndioneiwo Project offered to pay her foreign medical bills and transport costs.
Midlands provincial medical director Dr Milton Chemhuru yesterday said Muchekeza’s surgery went on smoothly.
“Dr Muchekeza was operated and the initial operation was a success, but we now wait to see how she responds after the operation,” Chemhuru said.
“She is still under special care from the doctors who carried out the operation.”
Meanwhile, Zivhu has called on other well-wishers to mobilise additional resources for Muchekeza’s treatment.

“Now that she has been successfully operated, we want her to continue recovering in China under the watchful eye of specialists in case of complications,” he said.
