OUSTED Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) of Africa church leader Tony Tshuma has approached the High Court seeking to stop a rival faction evicting him from the church premises in Bulawayo.

AFM reverends Clement Nyathi, Fidelis Morris, Joseph Matongo, Abel Mephulangogaja and Phibion Tagarira Manyowa recently secured a court order authorising them to evict Tshuma from the premises and stripping him of his positions as overseer and president of the church.

The group had filed an application seeking an order barring Tshuma and a church official, Elliot Ncube, from using or visiting church facilities since they were no longer leaders of the church.

High Court judge Justice Maxwell Takuva recently barred Tshuma and Ncube from acting as leaders of the church, or visiting church premises.

Takuva ordered them to release and return control of the church’s affairs and activities to Nyathi and his colleagues.

Tshuma has since appealed against the order at the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, Tshuma and Ncube, represented by Vovan Majoko, filed an urgent High Court chamber application seeking to bar the execution of the order granted by Takuva.

They cited Nyathi, Morris, Matongo, Mephulangogaja, Manyowa and the Deputy Sherriff as respondents.

Tshuma argued that as an overseer he had a duty to protect the church, its members and assets until a ruling by the Supreme Court.

He said there had been no writ issued for Nyathi and his colleagues following the judgment issued by Takuva.

“Acts of violence have been reported and there is fear that the violence would escalate and lead to civil and criminal unrest,” he submitted.

Violence erupted at the church in Pelandaba last Sunday where the two factions clashed over use of the church premises leaving some of the members injured.

Nyathi and his colleagues claimed Tshuma used to be a member before he was expelled on allegations of misconduct.

After Tshuma was notified of his ouster, he allegedly teamed up with Ncube to disrupt the smooth administration of the church.

The church approached the courts in November last year seeking an order interdicting the two from interfering with its operations, but Tshuma and Ncube filed a notice of opposition.

The church was formed in 1955 under the leadership of Morgan James Sengwayo in Bulawayo as the Apostolic Faith of Portland Oregon.

When Sengwayo died, the church was plunged into leadership wrangles.

Philemon Sibanda later assumed office of president and overseer of the church.

In 2008 when Sibanda died, the leadership problems resurfaced.

Tshuma’s rivals accuse him of imposing himself as president and overseer of the church.

They said without the knowledge of members, another version of the constitution — labelled Constitution of the AFM of Africa International — was drafted.

Tshuma and two others allegedly went on to forge signatures of church members.

The overseer allegedly amended the constitution in 2012 and presented it to the Registrar of Deeds. Nyathi said Tshuma had run the church’s business as his personal affair.

  1. The ousted Man must just accept defeat. He has done more harm than good to our Church. We all accept the Leadership of UBaba uNyathi.

  2. Nyathi is a barbaric power hungry ignorant person. ubaba uSibanda once mentioned that the church would turn to eles’manje manje if given to Clement Nyathi. He was right! This power hungry pastor has dragged us through the courts. Disgusting

  3. Reverend T. Tshuma is the OVERSEER there is no question about that, and clement nyathi dreamt being the overseer maybe in the future and even in dreams again but not in that temple NEVEREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Guys what about these forgery allegations. How can one forge the signatures of other board members. Do you guys ever remember about the secretary who stole the briefcase of u baba u Sibanda and do you remember what happened to her. Look at facts guys and the truth will set you free is Rev tshuma good at preaching apart from only announcing some few announcement. Compare him with Rev Sengwayo and Rev Sibanda you will see the difference.

  5. Guys don`t worry n compare esp wat u can only see … this is a spiritual matter and God will show where he is u know I always say there is more to this issue than what meets the eye

  6. If someone just think of becoming a leader by just being greedy, then that is not a spiritual leader. God Himself and His Trinity chooses. I can see that Kevin and Ephraim are pomological minded. God sent Moses to Pharaoh knowing that he cannot speak well. He looks so differently to what we look. If God chooses He does according to His will. We don’t care how much you By a tho speaks we only care about the good things that you do. This is spiritual not political. Nyathi is fighting for properties not for the heavenly kingdom. Our Lord whom we pray does not want us to gain about the world. He is God of surrenders. He loves the losers. What By at hi and his thugs are doing is not the fruit of the spirit. You cannot win the heavenly fight by buying the Mooney mongers of this word. No one according to the scripture is allowed to buy lawyers. The Lord told the Real and True Apostles not to think about what they will say or eat. Why do people who call themselves apostolate differ from Poultry and others. They had no hunger about the earth early things. Where are you going with these thing because they don’t have places in heaven. You are of the earth because you do what the earth does. Repent and receive the heavenly secrets, its shame. Woe to you who are so blind like this

  7. Leonard you are not responding to the facts and who are you to judge the spirituality others the bible says dont judge others for you will oslo be jugded.lets face facts here .Rv do you not nkow of the briefcase that was stolen in Ubaba USibanda which had infomation about who will be the next overseer .ok look the reason why utshuma is loosing the cases left right and center is because the constitution states that an overseer should not be a board member thats a fact so tshuma was a board member because of that he can not be an overseer. he forged signatures of Rv Matongo and Rv Morris what kind of a Christian does dat he was the one who first went to court remember asking the court to appoint him lawfully as the head of the church what kind of a person does that other why did he want to be appointed by the court it was because he had sold the church hence the name international he changed the constitution twice wanting to remove the close that said the overseer should not be a board member rather he must come from pastors thats what Rv Morris and RV Matongo were trying to advise him for 6 years but alas because of a few misguided individuals your nkow them he would not listen so he will fail even from the supreme court were he is appealing

  8. Ephraim , my brother ! You are ignorant to the extend of not seeing this things with a spiritual eye.
What did Lucifer did in heaven before he was thrown out of heaven , and mimic his action to that of the aspiring leader you are in support of . If Rev Matongo prayed for three days and was given an answer that the leader is so and so who are we to change the will of God. Remember True church leaders are made in heaven not on earth . I wonder which heaven are you aspiring to enter if you can not accept what the owner of it wants.

May the Lord give you spiritual sight to see!

  9. TODD RV Matongo does not support support tshuma leadership remember. after the death of Rv Sibanda the remaining board members were three that is RV Matongo,Morris and Tshuma the three were asked to elect a new leader and they elected Rev Nyati voting 2 – to 1 you see thats why mr Tshuma cannot be an overseer the rest i have told you for your sake i am not a member of that organisation and i now believe that i made the right choice of leaving that organisation where every time the overseer dies there is a leadership wrangles which are tearing up families and friends guys check this website if you want the truth http://www.jw.org thank you
