FC Platinum stalk BF

HIGHLANDERS coach Bongani Mafu says his team has to try and grind a result Thursday afternoon when they face FC Platinum in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL)match as they are still in an unfamiliar position on the log.

Highlanders are lodged at position eight, having moved one step up the ladder following their 5-1 demolition of How Mine last Sunday.

The former league champions had not won a match since May and the win against How Mine could have been a confidence booster for the side which has struggled under Mafu’s guidance.

They face FC Platinum who are riding high in fourth place after dislodging How Mine when they beat Hwange 2-0 at the weekend.
FC Platinum have not been to Bulawayo this season, but will hope to take advantage of Bosso’s poor home record.

Highlanders have won twice at home and that was against WhaWha and Hwange and most of their points are from draws.

Mafu had also been criticised for winning against “small teams” and the win against How Mine could be a confidence booster for the side.

“I think we need to come and play our football. We will play our game and hope they will play theirs,” said Mafu.

“We will play our game and try to get a good result in our own way. We are still down at the bottom. They are a high-flying team, highly-assembled and expensive outfit, but we want to go and win that match. It does not worry me that we will be at home,” he said.

The Bosso gaffer will be without first-choice goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda who is nursing a swollen ankle, Eric Mudzingwa, Mthulisi Maphosa are also out while Simon Munawa is doubtful for tomorrow’s match after limping off in their How Mine encounter.

Left-back Bruce Kangwa will also sit this one out after accumulating three yellow cards and is suspended for one match.

This would be coach Norman Mapeza’s first trip to Bulawayo this season in the PSL. FC Platinum will also be hoping to continue from where they left off last weekend.

In their last 10 matches, FC Platinum have been beaten once, 0-1 against Dynamos, won six times and drawn thrice.

One of the draws was against Highlanders 2-2 at Mandava Stadium in their first encounter which saw goals coming from Knox Mutizwa and Obediah Tarumbwa for Highlanders with Donald Ngoma and Thabani Kamusoko scoring for Platinum.
