President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired Industry and Commerce deputy minister Roy Bhila.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya announced Bhila’s removal from office in a statement last night.

Mnangagwa appointed Bhila as deputy minister in September this year.

In the statement, Rushwaya said: “His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr Emmerson D Mnangagwa has in terms of section 108 (1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 20) Act, removed Hon Roy Bhila from the Office of Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce with immediate effect.”

He did not give reasons why Mnangagwa fired Bhila who was appointed soon after the August 23 harmonised elections.

Bhila becomes the first minister to be fired after the disputed elections.

Bhila was elected Zanu PF legislator for Chiredzi North in 2018 and he retained the seat in the August polls.
