3 nabbed for illegal ivory possession

Police recovered 12 pieces of raw ivory weighing 64kg worth US$4 480 leading to the duo’s arrest.

THREE men from Lupane, Matabeleland North, have been denied bail in a case in which they are being accused of unlawful possession of raw ivory.

Jabulani Dube (41) and Dumisani Tshuma (30) were not asked to plead when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Collet Ncube on Monday.They were remanded in custody to January 31.

The court heard that on January 20 at 1am, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department in Bulawayo received  information that the duo was in possession of ivory.

On the same day at 5am, detectives went to Umguza tollgate where they intercepted the truck the two were travelling on from Lupane to Bulawayo.
