ED takes pupils through Zanu PF slogans

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday took school children through some Zanu PF slogans before promising to create a position for youths in the ruling party

structures.

He was officiating at the commemoration of Africa Youth Day and the Youth Empowerment Forum at the Magamba Training Centre in Mutasa South constituency.

Africa Youth Day is celebrated annually throughout the continent on November 1, with further recognition of November by the African Union as a youth month.

Mnangagwa was accompanied by Youth Empowerment minister Tinoda Machakaire and Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Misheck Mugadza.

Also in attendance was Zanu deputy national youth secretary John Paradza.

Before delivering his speech, Mnangagwa chanted Zanu PF slogans, which saw some schoolchildren following him.

Mnangagwa yesterday faced backlash from teachers’ organisations which said it was wrong for him to lead slogans.

Addressing the gathering, Mnangagwa promised youths more positions in Zanu PF structures.

“You as young people, deserve a seat at the table of governance and the economy. You are dependable development partners. As we march towards the realisation of our Vision 2030, we are going to create positions in our structures up to the top,” he said.

Mnangagwa said government remained committed to providing quality education that equipped the youth with necessary knowledge.

“We will continue to invest in vocational training and ensure that it is accessible, inclusive and aligned with the needs of today’s generation,” he said.

“On its part, the second republic has maintained the momentum in mainstreaming youth development processes. Forums such as this one are, therefore, most welcome and facilitate stakeholder engagement.

“In addition, I encourage you to shun vices such as corruption, which undermine the values of hard honest work and integrity in favour of quick money. We must fight against drug and substance abuse for the sake of our children.”
