Good Deeds Africa leadership seminar takes off in Harare

Good Deeds Day chief executive officer Kaynan Rabino said leaders in volunteer organisations and across sectors will engage in informative discussions on sustainable development, strategic partnerships as well as challenges in community service.

Over 150 delegates will converge in Harare over the next two days to share inspiration and best practices in community service, organizers of the Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe Regional Leaders Conference have said.

The annual event, which is being held in Zimbabwe for the first time, will run under the theme "Inclusive Volunteering for Sustainable Development; Leaving No One Behind".

Addressing the media on Monday, Good Deeds Day chief executive officer Kaynan Rabino said leaders in volunteer organisations and across sectors will engage in informative discussions on sustainable development, strategic partnerships as well as challenges in community service.

“What we are trying to do in the conference is to learn, share stories, get inspired by each other and bring good ideas back to our countries. Everything is for the purpose of volunteering and doing good,” said Rabino.

With leaders drawn from across 40 countries in the continent, the conference follows the annual Good Deeds Day –a global movement established in 2007 to celebrate the power of doing good, which was commemorated on April 6 this year.

“(Good Deeds Day) encourages individuals, organizations, and communities to engage in acts of kindness and service, fostering positive change worldwide,” said Rabino.

“For us, coming to Zimbabwe really shows how great this country is already doing in volunteering and doing good (so) it is not only about talking between our representatives in different African countries but also showing the great work by locals.”

Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe southern region coordinator Oswald Chishanga said the event would not only spotlight the impact of community service locally but also encourage more citizens to partake in volunteerism.

“I believe in terms of volunteer conferences this is the biggest that this country has actually hosted so we are so honored to host it. I believe hosting this conference will act as a platform to spread the circles of good in the country and also unpack issues of volunteering.”
