HARARE, July 2 (NewsDayLive) Zimbabwe Independent editor Faith Zaba has been remanded in custody to Thursday bail hearing.
Zaba appeared before Harare magistrate Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe on Wednesday following her arrest Tuesday on a charge of "undermining the authority of the president".
This stems from a satirical piece published in a recent edition of the Zimbabwe Independent.
Zaba, who was on bed rest and away from work due to poor health, voluntarily presented herself to the police before she was detained.
Her lawyer, Chris Mhike, stated that they made submissions regarding bail, emphasising Zaba's poor health.
“These allegations arise out of a satirical piece that was published in a recent Zimbabwe Independent edition," Mhike said.
"The State alleges that that satire was deemed to be offensive to the authorities.
“Regrettably, Faye will have to spend another night in custody having been locked up last night, the 1st of July 2025.

“We made the submission before entry into court at the vetting stage that the State should seriously consider the aspect of bail, whether or not they consent, bearing in mind her current poor health, she is not feeling well,” Mhike said.
The State requested for time to verify her medical background.
Zaba becomes the second journalist under the Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) stable to be arrested this year for doing their work.
"Blessed Mhlanga, a senior journalist at Heart& Soul TV, an AMH subsidiary was arrested and detained for 73 days on similar charges after the online television station broadcast a Press conference addressed by outspoken war veteran Blessed Geza. He was later released on bail ,and the matter is still pending at the courts.
