Moyo has since filed an assault charge with the Criminal Investigations Department Law and Order in Filabusi.

A CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) ward 23 council candidate for Insiza, Nomusa Moyo has accused her Zanu PF rival Sikhanyisiwe Nkomo of assaulting her at Shangani shopping centre in Insiza, Matabeleland South.

Moyo has since filed an assault charge with the Criminal Investigations Department Law and Order in Filabusi. A police report seen by the Southern Eye indicates that Moyo suffered a swollen face from the alleged attack by Nkomo.

“Complainant was accused of having insulted the accused sometime back. Complainant was poked on the face by the accused using her right finger,” the police report compiled and signed by a Constable Dube read.

In an interview, Moyo said she was with her colleagues conducting door-to-door campaigns and putting up posters at the business centre when they were told that some youth were tearing their posters.

“We went back to check what was happening and we found two youths who ran away. One of them was Nkomo’s relative,” Moyo said. “The other one was a child of Nkomo’s right-hand lady and my competitors. We then ignored them and went ahead with our programme.”

She said after the programme the CCC activists decided to have a braai at the shopping centre.

“I went into the butchery to buy meat and that is when I met Nkomo who started insulting me and poked me on the face. I then went to file a police report,” Moyo said.

Nkomo yesterday dismissed the allegations as false saying Moyo is the one who confronted her leading to a quarrel.

“These people conduct their rallies when they are about three or four and they came to my butchery where I advised Moyo to delete the insults she made on social media claiming I am a mad woman and people must not vote for me,” Nkomo said.

“When I asked her to do that, she said she was angry because I had blocked her from mining at some claims. I told her to clean my name while advising her that I had forgiven her.”

Nkomo accused Moyo of leading a group of CCC supporters who destroyed Zanu PF regalia in the area.

“They took some Zanu PF caps from our youth and destroyed them and I have since advised the youth to report them to the police,” she said.

Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo said he had not yet received the report.
