Residents of Mbundane suburb in Bulawayo are still experiencing a rural lifestyle more than 18 years after the suburb was founded.

Mbundane area is located in Lower Rangemore and falls under Umguza Rural District Council (RDC).

It, however, falls within the Bulawayo master plan approved by the Local Government ministry in 2004.

However, there is still no piped water

A resident, Soneni Sibanda, said they were forced to walk long distances to gain access to fresh water.

“We stand in long queues for hours after walking long distances in rough and dangerous terrains to collect untreated water,” Sibanda said.

Another resident Sinikiwe Moyo said: “Lack of water means there is no flashing system for toilets.”

Umguza Rural District Council chief executive officer Collen Moyo, was not available for comment.

The area takes the form of a rural setup with a shallow blair toilet located at every corner of their yards.

About one thousand houses rely on three old and dilapidated boreholes which had not been serviced in a very long time.
