A Bulawayo based Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member claiming to be the interim secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu, recalled 12 city councillors saying they had ceased to be members of the opposition party.

Bulawayo mayor David Coltart says the recall of 12 opposition councillors has crippled operations of various council committees.

A Bulawayo based Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member claiming to be the interim secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu, recalled 12 city councillors saying they had ceased to be members of the opposition party.

“The deputy mayor (Donaldson Mabutho) was also recalled along with the members of various committees,” Coltart said.

“This has impacted negatively on our ability to service those different committees, which they belonged to.

“This illegal and unconstitutional action is designed to disrupt the council and it will affect council business going forward."

Bulawayo is left with 26 councillors following the recalls. The recalled councillors include Shepherd  Sithole (ward one), Nkosinathi Hove Mpofu (ward six), Takunda Felix Madzana (ward 18), Simbarashe Dube (ward 20), Tinevimbo Maphosa (ward 21), Thobeka Mmeli Moyo (ward 22) and Arnold Batirai (Ward 24).

Proportional representation councillors Sarah Cronje, Tabeth Mhizha, Dorcas Sibanda and Zibusiso Tshongwe were also recalled.
