A 49-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man who allegedly stole 300 bags of fertiliser and scrap metal worth US$9 000 from his employer has appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ernert Muzembi facing a theft charge.

The accused, Manasa Mwembe was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody until March 5 for bail hearing.

According to court papers, sometime between August and October 2022, Mwembe was left in charge of the company while his employer, Regnald Takundwa (60) was away.

It is reported that Mwembe took advantage of Takundwa’s absence and stole from his employer. He reportredly stole 300 10kg ammonium nitrate fertiliser bags and 15 tonnes of scrap metal and sold them.

The offence came to light when Mwembe was seen by other workers stealing the goods. A police report was filed, leading to his arrest.

Efforts to recover the fertiliser were in vain.
