Beer binge ends tragically

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday said Shepherd Mavoka of Tafirei village under Chief Mapanzure lost his life following the tragic incident.

A 22-YEAR-OLD Zvishavane man was last weekend fatally attacked with bricks and empty bottles following a misunderstanding while drinking beer, Midlands police have confirmed.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday said Shepherd Mavoka of Tafirei village under Chief Mapanzure lost his life following the tragic incident.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a murder case in which a 22-year-old man was attacked to death while drinking beer at Lundi business centre in Zvishavane,” Mahoko said.

He said, the incident occurred on April 6 adding that one suspect Blessing Mahlasire also from Tafirei village had since been arrested.

Mahoko said police had since launched a manhunt for the other suspect, Reverend Magora of Dori village under Chief Mapanzure.

“Allegations are that Mavoka was drinking beer in the company of the two suspects Mahlasire (24) and Magora when a misunderstanding arose which degenerated into a fight,” he said.

“Mahlasire and Magora (allegedly) struck Mavoka with bricks and empty beer bottles all over the body.”

Mahoko said the following day at around 6am a passerby discovered the body of Mavoka about 100 metres from the business centre.

A report was made to the police leading to Mahlasire’s arrest and he implicated Magora.
