Chinyengetere saves the day for Makepekepe

CAPS United . . . . . . . . (1) 2

Bulawayo Chiefs . . . . (2) 2

IT looked all but over for CAPS United, but veteran Rodwell Chinyengetere rose from the bench to curl in a beautiful free kick goal right at the death to ensure a share of the spoils with an impressive Bulawayo Chiefs in a Castle Larger Premier League encounter yesterday.

Chiefs had come from a goal down to score two late goals in a space of 90 seconds at the end of the first half to silence a handful of Makepekepe supporters who had braved the wet weather at the National Sports Stadium.

William Manondo scored his 16th goal of the season, sweeping home a low cross from the left by Emmanuel Mandiranga from close range seven minutes before the break.

But man of the match Obriel Chirinda raced past CAPS United’s static defence to latch on to a long ball from the back and slot past Tonderai Mateyaunga to level the scores in the 44th minute.

Moments later Farau Matare doubled the visitors’ tally making the most of a through ball from Perfect Chikwende, who had robbed Mandiranga in the middle of the park.

In the end the Green Machine who had a forgettable season were relieved with a point in the last action of the game.

“It gives me mixed emotions because I thought we started on the front foot, especially in the first half.

"We dominated, but at the end of the day we conceded some goals that I thought we could have done better to avoid,” coach Lloyd Chitembwe said.

After dominating the early exchanges, CAPS United could only take the lead towards the end of the first half, but switched off to allow the visitors back into the game with two quick goals.

Malvin Mkolo gave CAPS United a lifeline when he cleared the ball with his hand under pressure in the third and final minute of added time.

Up stepped Chinyengetere who had been in the match for a little over 10 minutes to curl beautifully beyond David Bizabani.

“It’s a disappointing result for us but I think it was a good show.

"I think we started a bit slow, but after CAPS United had scored we raised our game,” Chiefs assistant coach Thulani Sibanda said after the match.
