Break drew us back: Brito

HIGHLANDERS coach Baltermar Brito has mourned that the three-week Castle Lager Premier Soccer League break has played down their momentum as they take on Caps United at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

The Green Machine will be home in Bosso’s favourite hunting ground that has witnessed the biggest crowds in the country.

Brito, who is under fire over the seven draws Highlanders have played in 12 games, said they had picked up form when the league was put on hold when they beat Bulawayo Chiefs.

Before that victory, the Bulawayo giants, yet to lose a match in 12 outings, had played five straight draws.

“After the win (over Bulawayo Chiefs), the break was not good because we were on a good momentum; we had a good performance against Bulawayo Chiefs and the break came and broke that momentum. However, the boys have been doing well in the three weeks; they are fired up for the match. We have hope for the next game because the boys have been doing well,” Brito said.

He added: “We expect a good game against Caps United. They are one of the biggest teams in the country. They came up with a good squad this season to show their intention for the championship. They have big goals and play good football. They play an open game, the same as we played against Dynamos; tactical but beautiful to watch.”

Makepekepe have not done exceptionally well this season just like last season when the club was affected by financial problems.

Brito said last year Caps United gave them a hard time when they came down to the City of Kings and Queens despite their challenges,

“Last season there was a lot of talk about Caps United’s internal problems. They had those problems before our match and they made our life hard. But this time around our boys are deaf to this kind of news because they should be focused and need to understand that Caps United, with or without internal problems, will give us a hard game,” he said.

Highlanders won the BF match 2-1 against Caps United in August last year.

They are positioned second on the log table, behind Ngezi Platinum Stars while Caps United are perched on the eighth spot.
