Brito’s contract at Bosso expires on December 31 and last week, he indicated that he has not been approached regarding his stay at the club.

HIGHLANDERS coach Baltemar Brito will miss the club’s last three games as he embarks on preparations for the Warriors’ 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers with the Bulawayo side yet to engage the Portuguese gaffer on a contract extension.

Brito’s contract at Bosso expires on December 31 and last week, he indicated that he has not been approached regarding his stay at the club.

On Thursday, following the defeat to Triangle, his fifth loss in 12 games, Brito confirmed that he would not be available for Highlanders’ last three games and wished the club well.

“I will not be available for the last three games of the season because I am travelling with the national team. I wish Highlanders the best and let's see the future," Brito said.

Club spokesperson Nozibelo Maphosa yesterday also said Brito would not be available, but would not be drawn into discussing the coach’s contractual issues.

Assistant coach Madinda Ndlovu will tomorrow preside over Bosso’s match against Herentals at Barbourfields Stadium and the last two games away to Manica Diamonds and home to Ngezi Platinum Stars, who could be crowned champions today if they beat Simba Bhora at Baobab Stadium.

“He can only be unavailable when he is on national duty. His assistant Madinda will be in charge. This (Brito’s contract) is between the employer and employee. Should there be anything to communicate, we will do so accordingly,” Maphosa said.

The Warriors will take on Rwanda next Wednesday at Huye Stadium and then host Nigeria at the same venue four days later.

Brito went on a fairy-tale run with Highlanders going 19 matches unbeaten before he lost to FC Platinum, Chicken Inn, Dynamos, Hwange, Simba Bhora and Triangle on Thursday with only one win against Yadah and five draws, falling aside in the championship race, having ruled the roost for the better part of the season.

They are on position five on the log table and may drop to six if Herentals win tomorrow.
