ZIMBABWE women's cricketers made a statement of intent ahead of their semifinal clash on Saturday with a nine-wicket win yesterday over Tanzania in their final Group A match at the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa at the Entebbe Cricket Oval in Uganda.

The Lady Chevrons scuttled Tanzania for 82 runs as they warmed up to the semis clash in which they will face the runners-up from Group B comprising Uganda, Namibia, Nigeria and Rwanda.

Spinner, Precious Marange (pictured), was the pick of the Zimbabwe bowlers with three wickets for 13 runs from 3.5 overs, while Kelis Ndhlovu, Nyasha Gwanzura and Ashley Ndiraya weighed in with a wicket each.

The Lady Chevs were equally ruthless with the bat, chasing down Tanzania's total inside 15 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

Zimbabwe captain, Mary-Anne Musonda, was the only casualty, falling for 33 runs from 27 balls. Fellow opener, Modester Mupachikwa, was not out on 22 from 43 balls together with Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano who scored a quick fire 25 runs from 20 balls.

This was Mupachikwa's successive unbeaten performance following her 47 against Botswana on Monday.

Zimbabwe are a match away from qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier scheduled for Dubai next year, and a win at the weekend will secure their place at the global showcase.

“It means a lot to us. We really want to qualify for the World Cup and it's all these tournaments that will count,” Musonda said.
