Mapeza targeting a strong start

FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza is targeting a strong start to the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season which they will kick off against newbies, Chegutu Pirates.

The four-time PSL Champions host Chegutu Pirates at Mandava stadium on Saturday at 3pm. 

And having done their pre-season business quitely, Mapeza is not underestimating Chegutu Pirates, who got promoted from Northern Region Division One League.

It will be intresting to see how Mapeza and his charges will fare in their season opener, having been clear on their mandate to win the title this season. Addressing a press conference in Zvishaavane yesterday, Mapeza said: 

"We have done everything on the phyiscal and tactical part but now it's more psychological. The guys are looking okay despite the scotching heat. I'm happy everyone is healthy. 

"It's a game of football, I've utmost respect for every team in the PSL. It's a newly promoted team. We approach them with respect because they recently got promoted. 

"Being able to gain promotion, it means they are a good team. We need to give them respect. Football is the same the world over. What is important is for us to know our objectives, that is to start the games on a winning note."

Mapeza has a cast of new faces in the dressing room and he will want them to his the ground running.

These include Davison Marowa, Mbongeni Ndlovu, Brighton Manhire and David Bizabani among others.
