TELONE made a huge statement of intent in their Premier Soccer League title bid after stunning log table leaders Simba Bhora FC 2-0 at Ascot Stadium yesterday.
Coach Herbert Maruwa declared that his team is now aiming for the league title, and the win against Simba Bhora was a step in the right direction.
Milton Chimedza and Tawanda Macheke scored in the second half for The WiFi Boys.
Chimedza opened the scores after 54 minutes following a neat interchange that was spurred by Bruno Mtigo.
Mtigo picked Chimedza who was making a fine run on the wing, and the lanky forward comfortably slotted the ball home with his first touch.
Simba Bhora thought they had equalised in the 60th minute when Blessing Moyo unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but goalkeeper Tapiwa Chilenga blocked it.

Macheke then sealed the win with a last-gasp goal that was orchestrated by Washington Navaya, who broke loose on the wing before laying a low cross that was tapped home by the former.
That was all they needed to burst the bubble for the PSL log leaders, their third loss of the 2025 season.
With the win, TelOne leaped to 37 points, where they are tied on the same number of points with Scottland FC and FC Platinum.
After the win, Maruwa, the TelOne gaffer, reiterated that they want to win the PSL title, hence they should beat the title contenders.
“I’m very, very happy that we beat the champions. I’m very, very happy with the way the guys responded, especially after a slow start,” he said.
“We managed to pick up our pieces and get an early goal in the second half and got another one in the last minute.
“Of course, football is a game of pressure, winning or losing is a game of pressure, but it’s still one.
“We have our own targets and we are ready to get the targets. We want the big one (league title).”
His counterpart, Joel Lupahla, conceded defeat.
He said: “Unfortunately, we have come here trying to get the points on the road away from home. Not one of our best games in terms of creating chances, but overall, I think we played pretty good.
“It’s not easy, the pressure is just too much. When you’re on top, people must play well against you. So, the players are going to have to get used to that. We had one or two opportunities. But we couldn't get them. And then the second half, they came back stronger.”
Added Luphahla: “And I think when we changed the formation, they had two guys playing on top. It really made us uncomfortable. But these are the games that we have to play. We need to improve our formation and get better.”
