HIGHLANDERS Royals moved out of relegation despite going down to Chapungu 4-2 at the weekend, while Herentals Queens kept their lead as the battle for top and bottom spots takes an intriguing turn in the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League after the conclusion of Match Day 27.

Defending champions Herentals Queens maintained their grip on the top spot, emerging 2-0 victors against Conduit Soccer Academy at Gwanzura Stadium on Sunday.

Yeukai Chipatiko’s first-half strike set the tone, while Natasha Benza doubled the lead in the second half.

Herentals now have 62 points from 23 matches.

Chapungu Queens are hot on their heels, boasting 59 points from 24 matches.

The team staged a remarkable comeback against Highlanders Royals, winning 4-2.

Ethel Chinyerere scored a brace, while Ileana Mupandawana and Miranda Ncube added to the scoreline.

In other matches, Black Rhinos edged Sheasham Queens 2-0, with goals from skipper Daisy Kaitano and veteran Rutendo Makore.

The Rhinos are tied with Chapungu on 59 points but trail on goal difference.

Correctional Queens maintained pressure at the top with a 3-1 win over Mpopoma Sports Academy in Bulawayo, taking their tally to 58 points.

Platinum Royals made a statement with an 8-0 thrashing of Red Buffalo Sports Academy at Mandava Stadium.

Pamela Nkomo and Ennerty Chemhere scored braces, while Beatrice Kanyumbo, Charity Karuru, Fortune Nyoka and Shamaine Kapachi added to the scoreline.

The win lifted Platinum Royals’ spirits, while Highlanders Royals also breathed a sigh of relief after moving out of the relegation zone on superior goal difference.

Black Mambas Queens and Red Buffalo Sports Academy occupy the bottom two spots.
