The award-winning Hloseni Arts Ensemble are set to hold its silver jubilee milestone in the arts sector.

The 11-member group will host its celebrations at their offices in Bulawayo.

The group’s director Zanele Maseko, told Standard Style that their arts journey hasn’t been rosy and came with challenges that threatened their existence.

“It has been a very long one (the journey), when the group started it was easy to get people to join because mostly the target was young people, some school dropouts and underprivileged kids who had no means to go to school,” she said.

“Our aim was to raise money so that they go back to school, but it didn't go very well along the way.

“We have experienced an exodus, people leaving and new artistes joining. Getting sponsorship is another challenge that has threatened our existence.”

She said despite the bumpy road, they were happy to have won gongs, which represented their hard work.

“Despite all these challenges, we are happy that we won consecutive Nama awards and a nomination in the third year,” Maseko said.

“This is an inspiration and exciting as we celebrate our silver jubilee.”

Maseko added that they were recruiting more artistes to beef up their 11-member team.

“Currently we have 11 members and still recruiting, grooming and teaching more people who have the urge to learn. A new production is also in the pipeline; watch the space,” she said.
