Treat for comedy fans

Comedy lovers are set for a treat as Bulawayo Theatre Club and LOL Entertainment Zimbabwe host The Fringe Show Comedy Open Mic on July 8 at Bulawayo Theatre.

The show targets the lovers of clean, witty and family friendly comedy. Those who want to be stand-up comedians will be hosted by Comedian and performer, Dumisani Hubert Ndlovu, aka MaForty.

LOL Entertainment Zimbabwe told Standard Style that this was the second Open Mic they were having and their goal had always been to help grow the arts sector.

“We would have loved to have more of these Open Mics but we have other commitments in the Entertainment Industry,” LOL Entertainment Zimbabwe said.

“We will have this at Bulawayo Theatre and this will happen 24 hours after we announce some of the performers for KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival.

“Our goal has always been to help grow the arts sector and for us the best way would be to go to the roots and also have interaction with audience members get to hear from them what they expect from the artistes.”

LOL Entertainment Zimbabwe added that they wanted to usher in new stand-up comedy performers and feed into the main stream stages.

“As you know we have an exchange programme with Comedy Club in Botswana which was hit by Covid-19 and we bring it back,” they said.

“Some of these guys will be beneficiaries of that programme. Are you not tired of seeing MaForty perform or the same faces every time?

“This will just be the first one; crowd interaction after each performer, we really need to get feedback from our audience.

“Most of the times we don’t get to do that when we do the main shows, so this is that platform where the audience can constructively critic any performer.”

In addition, LOL Entertainment Zimbabwe said: “This year we are really committed in talent and skills development as an entity, as we have been heavily involved with Dominican Convent High School Drama and Media Clubs. We will also be rolling out the same programmes to other schools in Zimbabwe and ofcourse at KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival, we will have platforms for these upcoming artistes.”

LOL Entertainment Zimbabwe urged people to come and support grassroots entertainment, go through the journey with these young creatives and be part of the growth and success story.
