KWEKWE continues to beam with hope of becoming Zimbabwe official cultural hub as young talented and upcoming musician such as Advokate I and Dziva Elrongo who are dedicating their time to supporting and building on the vision, says arts development practitioner Tawanda Jumo, aka Bantuman I.
The dreadlocked public servant said the futuristic opinion of having Kwekwe crowned as Zimbabwe’s cultural hub has not only been influenced by its geographical location, but rather the bursting talent coming out of the fast-growing town.
Speaking ahead of a long list of arts promotion activities billed for the roadside town in recent future Bantuman I was quick to note that the tightly weaved community has observed and mainstreamed a culture of networking and standing by each other where need arises.
“As a town with great potential, we have since found favor in supporting each other’s initiatives,” he said.
“We have seen the fruits of building each other and working as a family some of the major factors that have helped us earn the glory as a united Kwekwe arts community.
“It is through this spirit of togetherness that we have seen every band of solo artists coming from amongst us building a bankable and lasting career in the arts.”
KweKwe is known for having produced many national trophies such as the Ronnie Mudhindo, Traver The One, Kani, Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, Bob “Headmaster Nyabinde and Zig Zag Band, among others.
Against the rich history Bantuman I, also founder of Kwekwe Podium, a professional and well manned arts hub, said he was confident that this legacy will continue.

“We have built an ecosystem feeding in the nation’s arts space and it is for this reason that we have earned recognition together as a community,” he said.
“As an arts administrator I am confident that we will continue by any means possible to foster an anticipated growth from where we are right now.”
Bantu Entertainment Zimbabwe has lined up a series of talent shows to keep the turf warmed up amid efforts to grow and maintain the arts space.
“We have a number of lined up shows to help the young people with worthwhile edutainment activities that are deserving and in line with healthy living that is free from anti-social and self-destructive agencies,” Bantuman I said.
The talent shows will feature Harare and Kwekwe artists.
“We are going to have a number of local and national acts and these includes Denzel, Mr Hyper, Young Tagman, Runna Rulez, Ezee, Dziva Elrongo and Advokate I among others,” Bantuman I said.
Elrongo, one of the participants said more such shows will help boost the morale of young artistes in Kwekwe.
“It’s really an honour to be in such a lineup,” he said.
"Considering my background, this is one of the most needed stepping stones I have been longing for.
“Public performances help grow every artist, young or seasoned, and we are hoping for more such as we gain visibility as rookies learning the ropes.”
The Midlands city is currently hosting the Kwekwe Sports and Culture Festival, which kicked off last Friday.
