A BULAWAYO-based company Shield Security Limited has dismissed claims that it has failed to give its employees a salary increment since 2009.

The rebuttal follows complaints by Shield Security guards who told Southern Eye Business that the company was underpaying them.

“Contrary to allegations made that there has been no salary increment since 2009, the company has in fact, effected increments, the latest being June 2012,” the company said through its lawyers.

The company said claims by the guards that it was ignoring directives from the National Employment Council (NEC) in the security sector on salary increments were untrue.

“The company has no knowledge of any bargaining with the NEC and workers and there never was any agreement to increase salaries by 7%,” the lawyers said.

“Consequently claims that we failed to honour any agreement are not true as such none exists.

“It is incorrect and a total falsehood that employees have been paid $150 per month from 2009.

“As a matter of fact, our minimum salary is way above $150. “It is incorrect that employees are not getting gun and dog-handling allowances. “It is incorrect that June salaries were paid last week or the week before the last. The June salaries were paid when they became due.”

Guards had indicated they were appealing to the Labour ministry to intervene, saying efforts to engage their employer were not bearing fruit.
