DIVINE DUBE

The 21-year-old Sandisiwe Dube, also known as The Kasi Princess or TKP, fell in love with kwaito, hip-hop when she was in Grade 5 at Mthimkhulu Primary School in Bulawayo’s Magwegwe suburb.

She recalls: “I fell in love with rap music when I was in Grade 5 and that’s when I first wrote some lyrics,” TKP told Southern Eye Lifestyle.

TKP is already becoming a force to reckon with in Bulawayo. Although rap music is a genré popularised mostly by men, the ambitious young female rapper has defied all odds and is shaping her destiny towards becoming a top rapper.

As a young girl she knew that all she wanted was music, but just like any upcoming musician in Zimbabwe she is still trying to make ends meet. She looks forward to release a solo album probably next month.

The Magwegwe-born rap fanatic says she has worked with illustrious Bulawayo kwaito outfit The Three Kings of Iseqa Mabhilidi fame on a hit titled Dollar.

The multi-talented artiste has also featured in Stitsha, a rejuvenated musical which was original written by popular playwright Cont Mhlanga and became popular in the ’90s.

The play was rewritten by Sihlangu Dlodlo, a Bulawayo playwright under Qhube Productions.

She has also featured in Nyaminyami, a play also written by Mhlanga.

The vivacious rapper believes that Bulawayo has talent and if music promoters could turn their eyes on the city, she could release more albums and go places.

“Bulawayo has got talent. Unfortunately we don’t have music promoters in the city, but if we could get support I could release more albums and get bigger,” the somewhat shy rapper added.
