Hwange Local Board town secretary Ndumiso Mdlalose said a site visit to where the hotel would be constructed is planned for September 19.

“Hwange Local Board is inviting tenders from reputable investors for the purchase of a hotel stand and construction of a five or four-star hotel” Mdlalose said in a notice.

Mdlalose addded that the local authority was located in an area endowed with vast natural resources, adding that Hwange is situated in the middle of Africa’s largest coal bed and is surrounded by coal mining giants such as Hwange Colliery, Makombo Resources, Coal Bricks Mines and the new Chilota Colliery. It is also home to the biggest thermal power station, Zesa’s Hwange Power Station .

“Moreover, being the coal town that Hwange is, the town is situated right in the middle of Hwange National Park home of the big five and is the nearest town to the entry points to the national park. To this end, infrastructure to service the tourists and business visitors is in great demand,” Mdlalose said.

The land is on a mountain and will overlook the proposed civic centre site for Hwange town.

The local authority was allocated $600 000 by the Finance ministry last year to spruce up its infrastructure ahead of the 20th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly.
