The former Dynamos talisman was introduced into the match after 61 minutes when his side was trailing 0-1 and needed just 10 minutes to level the scores with a diving header.

It was Mukamba’s second goal since joining the Students in the second half of last season after netting a winner in his team’s 2-1 win in a pre-season match against Kaizer Chiefs in July.

Mukamba was used sparingly when he arrived at Wits, but he is getting game time this season under new coach Gavin Hunt. The 20-year-old has played in four of the six games his team has played this season and is hoping to improve on his steady start.

“I want to improve this season. This is a big team and we now have a new coach,” Mukamba told the club’s official website. “I want to play as many games in the (Absa) PSL as possible because time on the field will help me improve a lot.

I now want to focus on playing football and nothing else.” Mukamba played in the first league match of the season for the team, but was red-carded for retaliation.

“In that incident I was totally wrong,” he said. “I have apologised to my teammates and I will never do something like that ever again. In football, tempers are very high and the coach spoke to me.”

He added:“The coach has instructed me that I should play on the wing this season because I have the speed and the skill to do well in that position. I know that I would score more goals from that position.”
