BULAWAYO Chiefs’ newly-reappointed head coach Thulani Sibanda, who hit the headlines last week after he left Bantu Rovers, yesterday said he had “only been helping” Bantu Rovers as he had no contract.

Sibanda, who rejoined the Zifa Southern region division one log leaders Bulawayo Chiefs last week under a cloud, said he was not in any war with Rovers, pointing out that Methembe Ndlovu knows that he only had a temporal deal with the team.

“I am surprised about what I am hearing from the media that I had a running contract with Bantu Rovers. “In fact, it was just an arrangement between me and Methembe. He knows that and I will not engage in any wars with Bantu Rovers. I respect him in terms of football; to me he is the best in Bulawayo,” he said.

Sibanda told Southern Eye he never terminated the contract with Chiefs when he was assigned to help Rovers. “I never terminated my contract with Bulawayo Chiefs when I was helping Bantu Rovers,” Sibanda said.

Asked about his side’s chances of competing in the Premier Soccer League, Sibanda said it was everyone’s dream to succeed in life and he hoped for the best for Chiefs.

“Football is situational and you can safely say whatever you want after the results. As coaches we win matches on the field. It is everyone’s wish to succeed in life, but only God can decide your fate,” he said.

Sibanda made a mark on his return to Chiefs beating Zimbabwe Saints 2-0, exorcising the ghost that saw the log leaders falling to Black Boots 0-4.

The Sibanda-Rovers saga deepened last week amid allegations that gaffer’s decision to retrace his footsteps to Chiefs was illegal since he had not submitted his resignation letter to the club.

Rovers spokesperson Wilbert Sibanda did not make any comment as he referred this publication to Thulani, pointing out that he is the one who knows everything.

Gumbo has since been deployed to Bulawayo Chiefs Academy.
