Caps are licking their wounds after they were kicked out of the Mbada Diamonds Cup by minnows How Mine who beat them 4-2 on penalties.

The two teams were tied 2-2 in regulation time.

Caps are pondering over the consequences of failure and the right path for the future and with the league assignment against Black Rhinos today.

The Green Machine see it as a good opportunity to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on the Mbada Diamonds Cup.

Caps United’s championship hopes now hinge on them winning their remaining three matches and hoping that the log leaders Dynamos, Harare City, Highlanders and fourth-placed FC Platinum falter in the last matches of the campaign.

The Green Machine are sitting on fifth position on the table with 45 points — the same as FC Platinum who are above them because of a superior goal difference.

A win over the army side today would place them in a very strong position to land the PSL crown in the event that the table toppers stumble.

Caps United assistant coach Saul Chaminuka said their focus was now to finish in a very strong position on the league table.

“It was disappointing to miss out on the Mbada Diamonds Cup, but now our target is to finish in a strong position at the end of the title race. Preferably, we would want to collect all the remaining points,” Chaminuka said.

However, Black Rhinos are also aware a defeat could condemn them to Division One football next year. The army side are sitting precariously on fourth position from the bottom with 31 points and would be eager to collect maximum points to steer themselves away from the relegation zone.

FC Platinum will face a huge challenge in their bid to land the championship with Black Mambas the potential hurdle at Mandava Stadium tomorrow.

Black Mambas are still not safe from relegation despite being on fifth position from the bottom with 35 points.

They are aware a defeat could plunge them into an irretrievable nosedive and will be up to collect maximum points against the Zvishavane outfit.

Hwange and Buffaloes will face off in a battle for survival at the Colliery.

Both teams are still not safe from relegation.

Hwange are on 10th position on the log table with 35 points while Buffaloes are on 11th position on the table with the same number of points.
