GWANDA mayor Knowledge Ndlovu suffered a knee injury after falling awkwardly in a charity soccer match held to raise money for the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund at Phelandaba Stadium on Sunday.

Ndlovu, who featured for Gwanda Legends in a curtain raiser match to the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund trophy final, limped off midway through the second half with a suspected dislocated knee and torn ligaments.
He lost his balance as he tried to control an aerial ball and fell unchallenged leading to his injury.
He was rushed to Gwanda Hospital for medical attention and was expected to be referred to Bulawayo yesterday for further medical attention.
“I lost balance and in the process twisted my knee. I have undergone an X-ray and will be taking the results to Bulawayo for analysis and further medical attention,” said Ndlovu.
The X-ray showed that Ndlovu’s knee kerb had moved upwards and positioned itself over the femur.
He is likely to be out of office for some weeks while he recovers.

Despite his injury, Ndlovu later returned to the stadium to watch the finals and handed over prizes to winners.
Gwanda police outfit Old Timers clinched the trophy.
Ndlovu launched the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund two weeks with a target of $5 000 being set.
Ndlovu’s injury follows that of his Zanu PF compatriot, Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs minister Abednico Ncube, who fell and broke his leg during their party’s victory celebrations in Beitbridge in October.
Ncube reportedly slipped on his way to lunch and broke his femur and was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo for treatment.
The femur or thighbone is the largest and strongest of all bones in the human body. Though tremendously strong, the femur can be broken typically by falls from great heights and in car accidents.
Ncube has since been discharged from hospital and is recuperating at home under the care of senior nursing staff from Gwanda Provincial Hospital.
